My inspiration was, and is, my granddaughter Gabby who lives in Delaware. She was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 3. Unfortunately, after many agonizing doctor consultations, it was determined that Gabby had to lose her leg. The amputation took place at Delaware’s Nemours DuPont Children’s Hospital. Gabby is 11 years old now, and is cancer free!

But, we as a family, experienced the trauma of her cancer treatments. On many days it was overwhelming. And then there was the reality of the costs of those treatments and the hospital stays, hurdles that many families have to overcome.

So, I decided to try and do my part in helping families by fundraising for the UPMC Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund and cancer research at the UPMC Children’s Hospital Pittsburgh.

Our annual goal is to raise $20,000. But 2024 donations surpassed that goal and raised $22,000 with $12,000 going towards the Free Care Fund and $10,000 towards cancer research.

We are hoping for another year that will surpass the $20,000 annual goal.
